Charlize Theron is taking us way back to our stuffy primary school classrooms, when we sat nervously and hoping not to be called in front for mondeling (oral presentation in Afrikaans).

Remember when you could only manage to say, aangename kennis (pleased to meet you), before the awkward silence?

Well, Oscar-winning actress Theron seems to be on a mission to save you from the horror - one picture card at a time.

She is giving Afrikaans lessons via her Facebook page, called #LearnAfrikaanswithCharlize.

But until she posted "Geseënde #Blessed" - the third in the series, we'd forgotten she was still giving lessons.

In October, she posted, "Lag Hardop. Laugh Out Loud" (Seriously? Nobody types it out in full, Charlize. It's meant to be an acronym).

And the first in the series was posted in August - she kicked it off with "Gelukkige Vrydag! Happy Friday!"

It's not clear why the Young Adult star is giving the lessons.

But one Spanish fan called Carlos Tarus, who must have hopped onto Google Translate, told her, "Ek het geleer Afrikaans bevoor jour vir ekself."

The 39-year-old told Piers Morgan on CNN two years ago that she rarely spoke her mother tongue.

She was quoted as saying: "It's very difficult to speak in Afrikaans if there's only one person who speaks Afrikaans, and no one talks back to you, so it's a little strange to speak in my language."

One wonders how far ahead her beau, Academy Award winner Sean Penn, is with his lessons.

This week the couple were photographed for the first time since a US Weekly report that they got engaged on New Year's Eve.
