Both Pitso Mosimane and Roger de Sa have contested six cup finals as coaches, but neither has enjoyed much success or knockout joy. The pair go head-to-head on Saturday in the Nedbank Cup final, though only one of them will be sitting on the bench.De Sa's red card in Ajax Cape Town's final league game of the season on Saturday means he will not be pitch-side.Whether that is a significant game-changer for Mamelodi Sundowns and Mosimane remains to be seen, with De Sa doing everything else, including picking the side and giving team talks. This will not be the first time the two coaches have squared off in a cup final. De Sa's very first as coach was with ailing Wits University when they clashed with Mosimane's Supersport United in the 2005 final of the Absa Cup, the same competition as Saturday but under a different guise.Supersport triumphed 1-0.De Sa left the club after that match but returned in 2007 after a spell at Santos and steered the team to the final of the 2010 Nedbank Cup. His team scored a flurry of late goals to beat AmaZulu 3-0 for what remains De Sa's only cup triumph to date.A year later, Wits were in the 2011 Telkom Knockout decider, but lost 3-1 to Pirates in Durban.De Sa joined Pirates in 2012 and the following year led the Soweto giants to three cup finals in as many months, but all ended in defeat. They lost both the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout to Platinum Stars, and the 2013 CAF Champions League to Egyptian side Al Ahly. One final out of six is a record De Sa would like to improve on.So, too, would Mosimane, who has fared just slightly better by claiming victory in two of his six cup final appearances.Aside from the 2005 Absa Cup final, Mosimane masterminded victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the 2004 SAA Supa8 decider. He had no problem getting Matsatantsa to cup finals, but found winning them more challenging. This will be his first cup final since he joined Sundowns in 2012.Retired goalkeeper Calvin Marlin backs Ajax to upset Sundowns, eight years after the Urban Warriors stunned the big spenders in the same competition.Marlin was between the sticks for Sundowns in the 2007 Absa (now Nedbank) Cup final when Muhsin Ertugral's "chickens" sealed a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Bryce Moon and Franklin Cale.He has good reason to back Ajax, who beat PSL rivals Bloemfontein Celtic, Bidvest Wits and Supersport United en route to the final."With all the technology these days the coaches are able to communicate, so Roger's absence won't affect them. My head says Ajax. I just have a feeling they will win it," he says...
