Cape bags silver in flower show

Kirstenbosch bagged a silver gilt award at London's Chelsea Flower Show yesterday despite not having a complete exhibit to display only hours before Sunday's cut-off time. It was almost not to be for the SA Biodiversity Institute-run gardens after UK customs refused to release part of the consignment of the plants to be featured."There were a number of different issues around permits," said Kirstenbosch events manager Sarah Struif.The exhibit, celebrating Kirstenbosch's 40th year of presenting at the show,required intervention from other exhibitors, including Prince Harry's Lesotho garden project.Struif said the team was in good spirits and was glad the situation turned out well after the near-disaster."We're overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the other exhibitors," she said...
