How to Boks clever

Close but no cigar. The Springboks yet again fell short against our old enemy, New Zealand, thus missing out on another World Cup final. So where to from here? Heyneke Meyer is more passionate than most but we require a charismatic, forward-thinking coach. My view is that we need a total clean-out.If only Nick Mallett could return to the helm, with John Mitchell as back-line coach, Rassie Erasmus looking after the forwards and Jacques Nienaber the defence.François Louw or the indomitable Duane Vermeulen should take on the role of captain. We also need to evolve with the modern game and employ the type of approach with which the Lions won this year's Currie Cup. Ten-man rugby only takes you so far.Saru must relax its stance on transformation and mainly pursue it at provincial level. Young guns such as Handré Pollard, Lood de Jager and Jesse Kriel will be at their peak in 2019.The Springboks can once again be feared by the rest of the world...
