Madiba Zuma honoured for her health projects

First Lady Tobeka Madiba Zuma has been honoured by VSO-RAISA‚ an independent international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. She was presented with an award for the humanitarian work she does through her Tobeka Madiba Zuma Foundation by Baroness Elizabeth Barker of the UK Parliament‚ at a function yesterday in Pretoria.Presented as part of the Health Excellence Award‚ the award recognises individuals who demonstrate a commitment to achieving South Africa and Africa Health's vision of “Healthier‚ longer and better quality lives for all people in Africa”."She is passionate about women and girl children and has been actively involved in many platforms using her unique position of influence as the First Lady to help improve people’s health not just for South Africa‚ but for Africa‚" Baroness Barker said. VSO Country Director Ms Bongai Mundeta said since 2009‚ Mrs Zuma had made an extraordinary contribution in the areas of cancer‚ HIV/Aids and TB. As the country’s First Lady‚ Madam Zuma unveiled a High Care Oncology Ward‚ in September she handed over a HIV/ Aids and TB Clinic and many other outreach programmes rolled out to reach communities in need of healthcare services‚ particularly in rural areas...
