Supporters pack court for Nigerians accused of abducting SABC journalist

The bail application by two Nigerian nationals accused of robbing and kidnapping a senior SABC investigative journalist was postponed on Monday. The pair remain in custody. The two men‚ aged 36 and 25‚ winked and smiled at their fellow countrymen who came in numbers to support them‚ before they were escorted back to the holding cells.Debbie van Eeden‚ who was acting on behalf of their lawyer Thomas Nel‚ told the packed Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court that Nel was not present in court to represent them.Van Eeden said police were confirming the addresses of the accused. The one man’s asylum papers were with his wife in Pretoria‚ she added.It is alleged that on April 1‚ Jacques Steenkamp‚ who was working on a story about child trafficking and prostitution in Krugersdorp‚ was kidnapped and held hostage by a gang of Nigerian nationals in the area.He was released after nearly two hours of being held captive after the suspects withdrew R5‚000 from his bank account.The two men were arrested the following day‚ after a police raid.They are expected back in court on Friday‚ April 22...
