Letter: Don't always point at Islam

17 June 2016 - 09:27 By Cassim Mahomed Jasat

It has been stated, by multiple sources, that Omar Mateen, the shooter in the Orlando massacre, was himself gay. His wife, his father and the community he lived in have all claimed that he was not religious in the slightest.Yet, the media continues to ask questions about "radical Islam" and about Islam's stance on homosexuality.Mateen wasn't a "radical Muslim". He was a mentally deranged man.Instead of concentrating on this, and on the lax gun laws that America is notorious for, politicians and media pundits wish to cast all of that aside, and choose to attack Islam. The guy was a deranged lunatic. Islam's stance on homosexuality is irrelevant to this massacre. - Cassim Mahomed Jasat, Pietermaritzburg..
