Petrol price to increase by between 8c/l and 11c/l on Wednesday

The petrol price will rise by between eight and eleven cents a litre on Wednesday July 6‚ the Energy department announced on Sunday. Diesel will cost between 41 and 42 cents more for a litre. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will go up by 43c/litre while the retail price for gas will rise by 12 cents per kilogram‚ the department said.A higher oil price and a slight increase in the prices of petroleum products in international markets were the main reasons behind the fuel price increases. The extent of increase in fuel prices was limited by a firmer rand over the period.“The strengthening of the rand against the US Dollar during the period under review .. cushioned the fuel prices by over 17c/l‚” the department said.Oil prices were up mainly due to supply disruptions in Canada‚ Venezuela‚ Libya‚ Nigeria and Iraq‚ the department said.The department urged motorists and the public to “use fuel efficiently during these tough economic times”...
