Mystery surrounds the death of two men whose bite-mark riddled bodies were discovered in a canal in Durban on Thursday morning.

The pair‚ found within 100 meters of one another‚ remain unidentified.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said that members of the police’s search and rescue unit were called out to Phoenix to recover the body of an unknown man from a small stream.

“The victim had multiple bite marks injuries to the body. While they were busy‚ a second victim was also located 100 metres upstream. He also had similar injuries. A case of culpable homicide has been opened for investigation‚” she said.

A police source‚ who has knowledge of the incident‚ said that the two men appeared to have been badly mauled.

“It is difficult to say what happened to them at this point‚ but it looks as if they were badly mauled by dogs‚” the source said.
