An elderly man died from a suspected asthma attack while hiking with a group of people in Klipriviersberg Nature reserve in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning.

When paramedics found the man lying on the hiking trail at about 11am he was not breathing‚ ER24 spokesperson Annine Siddall said.

“Immediate resuscitation efforts were started‚ but unfortunately they were unsuccessful and the man was declared dead on the scene.

“It is believed that the man suffered an asthma attack before paramedics could get to him‚” she said.
