Metro police conducted a raid in Elsies River in Cape Town on Monday morning after community members complained about several recent shootings and gang related activities in the area.

Metro Police Chief Wayne Le Roux, who conducted the raid said that they call it “knock and drop”, a disruptive policing method that has led to a crackdown on crime in the Cape Town area.

Police used information from the community to arrest drug dealers and other criminals via a programme called the Rewards and Recognition Programme.

“We call it disruptive policing. It’s going out early in the morning, having early morning raids. Gang violence is happening, drugs are being sold, young kids are being used as runners.

"We know that in this particular area youngsters are being shot, they have to run the gauntlet to go to school. We cannot allow our mothers and kids to be held ransom by these criminals so we’re stepping up the policing and it will be continued, Le Roux said.
