A Springs farm worker who was allegedly forced to drink faeces wants his employers to apologise and pay him for his suffering‚ the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) said on Monday.

The SAHRC said it would be acting in a "representative capacity for the complainant‚ who seeks unconditional public apology and monetary compensation for his ordeal".

Court proceedings are to resume in the Springs Magistrate's Court where the commission had initiated Equality Court proceedings.

The incident is alleged to have occurred last year December at a plot in Endicott near Springs. The worker claims he was forced to drink about two litres of faeces before the perpetrators tried to drown him in a septic tank. The man was allegedly tortured after he failed to switch on the engine of a septic tank pump.

The SAHRC said the farm had been the site of continuous human rights violations.
