Blustery winds forced the partial closure of the port of Durban on Monday.

It is understood that strong winds had also forced the port of Richards Bay to suspend shipping operations on Sunday night.

Transnet National Ports Authority informed its clients on Monday morning that the port is "experiencing strong winds - gust 30 knots south west".

"The port remains open to select movements‚" Transnet stated.

According to the correspondence issued to service providers‚ selected movements were open to sailing‚ shifting and inbound ships.
