Archibald Figlan, a DA MP and deputy spokesman in the National Assembly, has received a suspended sentence after being found guilty of sexual harassment during an internal party disciplinary hearing.

However, according to IOL, he will keep his job despite having forced a DA staffer to touch his privates during a protest march in Cape Town ahead of President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation Address.

The staffer in question officially laid a complaint against the MP in February.

He was found guilty of contravening five clauses of the DA's constitution in April. The party's federal executive decided to hand him a suspended termination so long as he agrees in writing to abide by certain conditions.

“This is truly bizarre.

“If the charges were of such a serious nature, a suspended sanction does not seem a fitting punishment,” a source within the party told IOL.
