Orlando Pirates will announce the signing of former Arsenal and West Ham winger, Luis Boa Morte, this morning.

The 34-year-old, who won the English Premier League in 1998 with Arsenal, arrived in South Africa on January 16 to negotiate terms with an unnamed local side.

Yesterday, Boa Morte settled on committing to defending Absa Premiership champions Orlando Pirates, where he will reunite with former West Ham United teammate Benni McCarthy.

McCarthy joined the Buccaneers at the start of the season after more than a decade in Europe, where he also won the European Champions League with FC Porto.

Boa Morte's agent, Paul Mitchell, said last week it was McCarthy who had convinced the former Portuguese international to consider South Africa to end his career following the termination of his contract with Greek club Larissa.

Pirates' chairman, Irvin Khoza, is expected to announce the signing of Boa Morte at a press conference.

The experienced winger could play a key role in the club's African Champions League quest - a competition Khoza has urged his technical team and players to try to win.

Pirates' first game is a preliminary encounter against Angolan side Recreativo do Libolo on February 19 at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth.

There is still uncertainty in the Kaizer Chiefs camp regarding the contract of star midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala.

The Bafana player's agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane, was unavailable for comment yesterday but had disputed a claim by Chiefs on Friday that Tshabalala would sign a new contract by yesterday.

Mahlakgane said Tshabalala was still waiting to hear from English Championship side Crystal Palace about an offer following his 10-day trial there early this year.

Though Itumeleng Khune, another player who was not expected to see out the remainder of his contract at Chiefs, penned a new three-year deal on Friday, Tshabalala's future with the Amakhosi is still uncertain.

Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman said the club was interested in the Bafana vice-captain.
