Khama Billiat will have to deliver on a hero’s welcome received in Zimbabwe after cleaning up at the Premier Soccer League awards when he plays for his country’s national team in Sunday’s key African Nations Cup qualifier against Malawi. Zimbabwe have a chance to book their place at next year’s finals in Gabon if they beat Ernest Mtawali’s side in Harare. But they will need Swaziland to beat Guinea or draw with them in the other Group L match at the Somhlolo Stadium which is being played at the same time. Billiat has been creating headlines in Harare after being named the Footballer of the Year in South Africa. He was mobbed by fans at training in the Zimbabwe capital this week and the day after the PSL awards in Johannesburg flew home‚ where he was a spectator at the friendly match against Uganda and was given a standing ovation by the crowd. Zimbabwe were last at the Nations Cup finals in 2006 and a massive turn out is expected for the game which has been moved to the National Sports Stadium after originally being scheduled for the artificial turf at the Rufaro Stadium. Warriors coach Callisto Pasuwa will be relying heavily on his South African-based contingent with Kaizer Chiefs’ Willard Katsande captaining the team and Billiat leading the attack along with former Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona‚ who now plays in Belgium.
