'This is a game Bafana Bafana want to win' - Shakes wants to put the record straight against Mauritania

Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba wants to put the record straight against Mauritania‚ he said‚ announcing the squad for the South Africans’ final 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the northwest Africans on Friday.Mashaba announced a youthful squad – drafting in five more members of South Africa’s Under-23 team that did duty in the Rio Olympics this month – for Bafana’s matches against Mauritania and Egypt.South Africa meet Mauritania at Mbombela Stadium on Friday‚ September 2 in their last Afcon 2017 qualifier‚ a match rendered meaningless in terms of qualification.Bafana then play Egypt in the Nelson Mandela Challenge friendly international at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday‚ September 6.While both SA (third place in Group M on six points) and Mauritania (second place on seven) are out of the running for Gabon 2017‚ Mashaba said the match remains significant.Judas to take a stab at PSL's Golden BootCape Town City striker Judas Moseamedi has lofty ambitions for the current campaign and says he is targeting the Premier Soccer League’s Golden Boot award this season. A 3-1 defeat on an artificial surface against then-114th-ranked Mauritania in Nouakchott in September last year was the result that cost the South Africans a chance of pushing group leaders Cameroon (now on 11 points) closer.“This is a game we want to win‚ to put matters straight. And to see who are the big boys between us and them‚” Mashaba almost growled. The coach said he had not entertained thoughts of throwing in youngsters against Mauritania‚ given the match no longer counts towards qualification.“I hear a lot of people talking about‚ ‘We didn’t qualify for the Afcon‚ and give these games to the juniors’‚” he said.“That could only be said by a person who doesn’t have vision. We have got the World Cup qualifiers coming. These two games are preparation for those. “We have to try to pick a very good team for these two coming matches. And we’ll try to give most of the players a chance to play in either game.”Bafana begin their qualifying matches for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in early October.Mashaba might have warned against picking youngsters wholesale‚ but the coach has been quite adventurous utilising this opportunity to call up players from South Africa’s Olympic Under-23 squad.Keagan Dolly and Rivaldo Coetzee did duty for Owen Da Gama’s team who drew impressively against Brazil (0-0) at Rio 2016‚ but could not capitalise on that result as a 1-0 defeat against Denmark and 0-0 draw against Iraq saw SA exit in the group stage.Dolly and Coetzee‚ however‚ are already senior team regulars. Mashaba has added impressive Olympic right-back Abbubaker Mobara‚ wingers Maphosa Modiba and new Mamelodi Sundowns signing Thapelo Morena‚ utility player Deolin Mekoa and forward Gift Motupa from Da Gama’s side in Brazil. All these players – apart from Morena‚ who was part of the Olympic squad as an additional player – impressed enough to have been called on merit‚ as much as to inject youth and energy.Mashaba confirmed this‚ saying: “Mobara played for Bafana when we won the Cosafa Cup [in Namibia in June]. And yes there might be some reward for the performance these players put in [in Brazil]‚ but we have been watching them all for a long time as the future of Bafana Bafana.” Mashaba said he wants Bafana to beat both Mauritania and Egypt to have momentum going into the World Cup qualifiers.SA have been handed a fair qualifying group for Russia 2018‚ having been drawn with Senegal‚ Burkina Faso and Cape Verde. The group winners progress to the World Cup.South Africa begin their campaign against Burkina Faso away on October 3.Bafana squad:Goalkeepers: Jackson Mabokgwane (Orlando Pirates)‚ Itumeleng Khune (Kaizer Chiefs)‚ Reyaad Pieterse (SuperSport United)Defenders: Ramahlwe Mphahlele (Kaizer Chiefs)‚ Rivaldo Coetzee (Ajax Cape Town)‚ Thulani Hlatshwayo (Bidvest Wits)‚ Abbubaker Mobara (Orlando Pirates)‚ Sifiso Hlanti (Bidvest Wits)‚ Tebogo Langerman (Mamelodi Sundowns)‚ Clayton Daniels (SuperSport United)‚ Denwin Farmer (SuperSport United)Midfielders: Dean Furman (SuperSport United)‚ Andile Jali (KV Oostende)‚ Deolin Mekoa (Maritzburg United)‚ Mandla Masango (Randers)‚ Thapelo Morena (Mamelodi Sundowns)‚ Keagan Dolly (Mamelodi Sundowns)‚ Maphosa Modiba (Cape Town City)‚ Mpho Makola (Orlando Pirates)‚ Hlompo Kekana (Mamelodi Sundowns)Strikers: Gift Motupa (Orlando Pirates)‚ Thamsanqa Gabuza (Orlando Pirates)‚ Sibusiso Vilakazi (Mamelodi Sundowns)‚ Tokelo Rantie (AFC Bournemouth)‚ Prince Nxumalo (Ajax Cape Town)..
