Little-known Englishman Peter Butler is the new Platinum Stars coach.

TimesLIVE can confirm that Stars have reached an agreement with the former Botswana national team coach who will take over from Cavin Johnson‚ whose contract was not going to be renewed at the end of the month.

Butler parted ways with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) earlier this week to pave the way for this move that is going to come as something of a surprise to a lot of football fans in the country.

The appointment is part of Stars’ mission to freshen things up at the Rustenburg-based club and they are also expected to announce new members of the technical and medical teams.

Should his work permit be processed quickly‚ Butler is expected to be on the bench when Stars take on Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien on June 20 in the Caf Confederation Cup clash at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.

Stars need a quick turnaround of fortunes as they are perched at the foot of Group D in the Confederations Cup with just one point to show from their opening three matches.
