Jeff Moyo from the local music group 3sum passed away while at his family's home in Rustenburg.

According to fellow band member and friend Amstel Makwane, Moyo (33) had gone home a month ago to recuperate.

Makwane told The Times yesterday afternoon: "He had been complaining about his ulcers and it got complicated, so he went home to rest and be with his family and unfortunately he passed on just as we were starting to believe he would get better."

Amstel said the group, under the ProKelly Entertainment label owned by former-lovers Prosper Mkwaiwa and Kelly Khumalo, were waiting for Moyo to return to Johannesburg with a clean bill of health so they could begin recording another album, but without him, the group is "incomplete".

"His family is really hurting because he died in their hands, but at the same time its comforting that he was next to them (when he died)," Makwane said.

The ProKelly Entertainment label's exec Prosper Mkwaiwa told The Times: "Jeff is a huge loss. He was very dedicated and a loyal individual. He would travel all the way from the Eastrand, where he lived, to attend any event just so he could represent the group. He was a very kind character."

Mkwaiwa said the group's previous album could be rereleased "just to honour him".

Makwane said funeral arrangements had not been finalised.
