Capetonian Kelly Fortuin's elimination from the Idols Top 6 last night was hardly a surprise despite host Proverb's best efforts to create suspense around the announcement.

Fortuin, and perhaps surprisingly Freddie "Van'Dango" Moss and Dave van Vuuren, received the fewest votes this weekend.

But even then, everyone in the audience did not realistically see the two guys leaving.

Fortuin, who performed an underwhelming version of Estelle's American Boy during Sunday's pre-recorded show, said after her elimination last night that her song choices had troubled her throughout the competition.

She said: "Ultimately [my choice of songs] was the hard bit. On some nights, when I got onto the stage, I'd be thinking: 'Damn, that was a bad choice'."

The mother of one, who was saved by the judges during the Top 8 stage two weeks ago, said she had learned a lot during the show.

"It's been a privilege to be a part of Idols. I've watched it since the first season. I can finally say I was part of Idols. I've learned a lot about professionalism," she said.

Idols executive producer Gavin Wratten said they had decided to bring the band onto the stage for "a real rock concert feel".

This weekend's Top 5 show has a pop-rock theme and will see the remaining hopefuls each perform twice for the first time this season.
