A South African independent fashion film has been nominated for six awards at this year’s International Fashion Film Awards.

Elven Sky, produced by local entrepreneur Tyrell Singh and directed by Warrick Mcleod, is a story about Chunapa Wakan who lived in a world of ancient legends, folklore and sacred rites.

The film has been nominated for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Director, Best Hairstyling, Best Makeup and Best Fashion.

Inspired by the earth, forest and fauna, among places of age-old worship and the beat of tribal lands, Chunapa Wakan entered into a new realm of the enchanted feminine divine – into a universe of the goddesses.

It is a film where Steampunk and haute couture have merged, which has captured some of Cape Town's elite international model talent on motion picture in the short film medium.

A unique genre, which is still very new in the world of both film and fashion, Elven Sky was created in South Africa with a crew of various professionals across the local Cape Town film and fashion industry, along with well known local designers Gavin Rajah and Jo Carlin.

“The lure of our story is Elven Sky itself – the subversive world created, which enchants the audience, bringing them into the front row seat of this film, says the team who made the film.

“Through the moving images of film, as well as the fashion, we are inviting you into this labyrinth, trusting that the spirit of Chunapa Wakan will captivate you – into a deep provocative peace where old and new worlds have been bound together.”

The International Fashion Film Festival takes place in La Jolla in San Diego, California from July 26 to 28, 2013.

Elven Sky is also entered into the Miami International Fashion Film Festival taking place this September.
