Local comedian David Kibuuka has landed in Brazil to embark on his first major sport reporting assignment, covering the 2014 Soccer World Cup.

Kibuuka is known as the overzealous foreign correspondent on eNCA’s comedy show Late Night News with Loyiso Gola.

Born in Uganda, Kibuuka often features in television shows, films and some of the best comedy festivals in South Africa.

When he touched down on Latin American shores on Wednesday, Kibuuka discovered that the five star accommodation he’d been promised is non-existent, and that he has not been accredited, nor given press passes to the games.

‘‘Why am I backpacking with Gypsies and travelling in buses full of goats and chickens?” the comedian implored his team.

According to posts on Twitter, Kibuuka tried to quit his job on LNN to pursue his dream of becoming an international sports reporter, but Gola would not free him from his contract.

“@davidkibuuka won’t be quitting the show, he will do both #LNN and #My Big Break from Brazil,” tweeted Gola yesterday.

Relegated to the sidelines, Kibuuka will submit daily reports to LNN from the periphery of the action at match locations around Brazil. Denied press accreditation, he will be forced to find his stories excluded from stadium media access, rubbing shoulders only with the average Brazilian José .
