Fresh from winning two awards at this year’s Metro FM Music Awards last month, acapella group The Soil will for the first time parade their new member Theo Matshoba in front of a huge audience at this weekend’s “Prime Weekend” show.

The Soil will be one of the pull cards for the second annual “Prime Weekend”, which is scheduled to take place over two days from Friday 11 to Saturday 12 March 2016 at The Carnival City’s Big Top Arena in Johannesburg East.

Having already made her debut performance last week when The Soil performed at the Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, Matshoba will for the first time perform live in front of a huge carnival crowd.

“I’m really excited and nervous at the same time ahead of this weekend’s show. It will be my second time performing with the guys (The Soil) but this gig (Prime Weekend) will be the biggest for me more so because a huge crowd is expected to turn up for this event,” Matshoba told Times LIVE on Wednesday.

The University of Johannesburg student has replaced Buhle Mda, the group’s female vocalist who has taken time off to honour her ancestral calling. Matshoba is well aware of the fun and challenges ahead.

“I know Buhle’s shoes are really big to fill but I’m up for it and looking forward to it. The guys (The Soil) have really welcomed me with warm hands, not even a single day since I joined have I felt like I’m not part of the collective. It’s been smooth sailing and preparations have gone very well for this weekend,” said Matshoba.

With its comedy juxtaposed with music, the event’s number one aim is to promote local stand-up comedy with selected cream-of-the-crop comedians. The line-up will also introduce new talents that South Africa should look out for in the comedy industry, making this an event not to be missed.

The hot line-up for the show will comprise of live performances from The Soil, Mafikizolo, Black Motion and K2, with Reality TV star Thandi “Blue” Mbombo and Comedian Tumi Stopnonsense as the Masters of ceremonies (MCs).

Tickets for Pride Weekend are now available for sale at Computicket, Shoprite, Checkers and House & Home.
