So you just got paid (or won the lotto) and you want to book your favourite musician for a party you're hosting. Do you have enough to make your dream a reality? Well, sit down and let's take a look at your wallet.

Money is something we were told to never discuss at the dinner table and many people are quite guarded when it comes to telling strangers how much they earn.

But not some of our favourite local artists!

  •

After rapper AKA recently told fans that he earns between 90 and 130 thousand rands, we decided to do some digging to find out how much celebs charge per gig.

AKA-  Between R90k & R130k

The rapper recently lifted the lid on his price during a discussion on how much he earned campaigning for the ANC during the local municipal elections.

Cassper Nyovest - R120k plus

According to a Sunday World report in February, AKA's rival Cassper Nyovest is said to earn anything from R120,000 per show. Although he did say in a tweet a little after that he doesn't know how much he charges anymore because the price "keeps going up."

Uhuru - R100k plus

A report in Move magazine at the end of 2014 claimed that popular kwaito-house group Uhuru charges nothing less than R100,000 a show.

The same report also claimed to reveal the cost of hiring Mi Casa and Mafikizolo at a cool R80k each.

  • Die Antwoord accuses Suicide Squad of ripping their styleDie Antwoord’s Yolandi Visser launched into a blistering rant on Instagram on Wednesday, claiming that Suicide Squad director David Ayer called the group over the film’s references to their style, but that this didn't amount to them giving him "permission to rip [them] off."

HHP- Between R55k and R100k

January is generally the time that things may start to slow down for artists as bookings start to dry up. So, you can excuse Motswako rap legend HHP from advertising his services to fans via Twitter early last year.

"Anybody wanting to book HHP this year, I only play with a band. So it’s either you book full or half band…Half R55k. Full R100k. Thank you," he told fans.

DJ Zinhle - R70 K

A few months later DJ Zinhle revealed to Gareth Cliff that she earns around R70 000 a show.

"I'm doing a show for a launch and we're charging them 70,000," she told Gareth in a CliffCentral interview.

Nathi Mankayi - Between R140k and R50k

A recent report in Sunday World claimed that Nomvula hitmaker Nathi Mankayi charges between R50,000 and R140,000.

The same report claimed the following figures:
Zahara - R100k plus

K.O -  R70k

Kelly Khumalo - R35k

But none of those figures come close to what the publication claims legendary Jazz musician Hugh Masekela costs.

The paper reported that Hugh Masekela costs a whopping R280k per gig.
