Tumi Morake on her rape ordeal: 'I turned to drinking and smoking'

Comedienne Tumi Morake says after she was raped, at the age of 15, she was "left broken and hurt," which led her to drinking and smoking.

Speaking to Move, Tumi revealed elaborate details of the dreadful day when she was raped by a boy who she had a crush on.

According to the comedienne, the horrifying incident occurred during a weekend when her and a rap group she used to dance for visited "one of the universities in the Free State," to perform.

"I had borrowed a belt from this boy I had a crush on," she recalled.

"When I went to return it at his residence, he locked the room and raped me. When I told him to stop, he didn't listen and when I tried to push him away, he wouldn't let me go."

She admitted to being afraid of letting anyone know what had happened, assuming that people would raise questions about being in the boy's room in the first place.

Tumi further added that the ordeal led her to start drinking and smoking.

"Looking back I was left broken and hurt and I turned to drinking and smoking, which was never my thing," she said.

Tumi first opened up about being raped during an interview with The Citizen, following a highly-publicised silent rape protest aimed at President Jacob Zuma last month.

"I was raped but never spoke about it till now, and it is probably because of this Khwezi thing," she told the local publication.

"But that was how I lost my virginity."
