As Babes Wodumo prepares to put the finishing touches to her debut album, the star has released her second single. But it hasn't been without drama.

Babe's highly-anticipated single Mercedez was officially released on Friday to general acclaim.

Fans were quick to hail the track as a real club banger.

But the track has not come without controversy.

Earlier this month, the song made headlines - despite not yet being released - for apparently promoting a new deadly street drug known as "umgwinyo", "data" or "mercedes"

According to Sunday Sun, the song caused quite a stir among communities who thought the song was in bad taste.

“It’s crazy since she (Babes) comes from a Christian family. Now they’re not condoning the use of the drug, but are celebrating it," one fan told the paper.

Babes apparently refused to comment on the incident but has been proudly promoting her new single.
