After remaining tight-lipped for the longest time, Ayanda Thabethe has finally opened up about her failed romance with TV personality Andile Ncube, saying that she learnt an awful lot in the 18 months they spent together.

Speaking to DRUM, the actress clarified that she and Andile were not legally married, despite the fact that they had a traditional wedding in 2014.

"We didn't get divorced, we separated," she explained.

"We were not legally wed."

She further revealed that their brief relationship taught her the importance of knowing herself, and where she should invest her efforts, time and energy. And while their break-up was plagued with cheating allegations, Ayanda set the record straight, saying her stint with Andile wasn't a "bad experience".

"I learnt a lot, but one thing that stands out is the importance of knowing oneself. If you know yourself, you know what deserves your time and effort.

"As much as I didn't have a bad experience, I now know where to direct my efforts, time and energy. I feel at that time, my energy was misdirected," she said.

During an interview with Gareth Cliff on CliffCentral earlier this year, Andile dismissed rumours that he cheated on Ayanda, before also claiming that that his "marriage wasn't horrible".

"It was a shock to most people. We had been married for two years. It was what a lot of people thought was ‘amazing, dream marriage this is what I want'. It was what people thought it was Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. It was a shock when out of the blue [we split]," he revealed.
