Connie Ferguson has dismissed any concerns about casting her ex husband actor and director Neo Matsunyane in the recently released Kings of Jo'Burg season 2.

Speaking with Bongani Bingwa on 702 on Friday morning, the Ferguson Films owner and executive producer spoke about her late husband Shona Ferguson's legacy and also shared her comments after the host asked her about casting the seasoned actor.

“A point of controversy, I mean, not for you, but for certain viewers that might raise an eyebrow or two ... you’ve cast Neo Matsunyane in the second asked Bongani

“First of all, I'm not the casting director,” answered Connie.

“Some decisions are made independently. With that said, Neo is a brilliant actor, he’s a brilliant performer and he suited the role perfectly, so why not cast Neo and why is there a point of controversy?” she added.

Kings of Jo'Burg season two will see the return of Connie Ferguson, Zolisa Xaluva and Thembi Seete and some new faces, including Neo Matsunyane, Thapelo Mokoena and Sello Maake kaNcube.

Taking to her Instagram timeline before the show debuted, t Connie posted:  “Tik... Tok... We’re almost there. With the sudden and suspicious disappearance of the King of Joburg Simon Masire, the family struggles to adapt to a new king and new enemies in the City of Gold. Heavy is the crown, but it’s time to take back the city. Kings of Joburg season 2 coming January 27, only on Netflix.”

She dedicated the show to Shona Ferguson who starred in the first season of the Netflix series.

“In memory of the most amazing human being I have known, the King of Joburg Shona Ferguson, aka Mr Sho, aka Uncle Sho. This is for you, my love. Hope you’re proud.”
