Makhadzi shut down the Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival on Saturday, delivering an electrifying performance at Nandoni Dam in Thohoyandou, Limpopo.

The singer made a grand entrance, flying across the audience while performing songs from her latest album Mbofholowo.

During her set she also performed using a wheelchair.

Footage of the performance has gone viral on social media. It was also filmed for the singer's upcoming documentary.

“My documentary is about my life, my performances, my mjolo. The other side of Makhadzi that people don't know,” she told TshisaLIVE.

“I was trying to run away from shooting it only because someone wanted to and have them end up owning the rights of my work. I'm just doing it myself, we've been shooting it from last year.”

Since leaving her former record label Open Mic Productions in May, Makhadzi has been enjoying more creative freedom, establishing her own label Makhadzi Entertainment.

“There is a lot I learnt. Open Mic taught me a lot about the industry and now everything is flowing. I dropped my album and everything is selling, streams are high, bookings are high. There is nothing that's changed. Everything is just doubling now — because I'm independent, everything comes to me.

“Now I know how much I could've made before, how much I'm making now and how much I should be making from streams. I think I'm getting to know a lot of things that were hidden from me when I was working with people.

“The knowledge came a bit late, after I dropped a lot of hits, but I believe everything happens for a reason.”
