Less than a month after acquiring a new host, Moja Love's anti-drug show Sizok’thola is again embroiled in assault allegations.
The latest incident allegedly happened while the show was being recorded in Soshanguve, Pretoria, last Thursday.
Gauteng police have confirmed a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm has been opened at Soshanguve police station and is under investigation.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said no arrests have been made.
“Police cannot divulge more information on this case as that might compromise the investigation,” he said.
The crew of Sizok’thola, allegedly led by its new host Xolani Maphanga, is accused of assaulting a woman and two men in Soshanguve while on a drug bust.
The crew was allegedly not accompanied by police as should be the procedure.
TimesLIVE has seen pictures of the bruises sustained by the victims on their bodies.
One of the victims, a woman, was allegedly choked, beaten on the upper and lower body and splashed with water.
The channel’s spokesperson Nonzwakazi Cekete said it is an allegation against the production team which is doing a great job in eradicating drugs from the streets.
“The production works hand in hand with the SAPS. In this instance we were given a lead by a constable based at Soshanguve police station to the dealings of a drug lord called Tebogo,” she said.
Cekete said when the team arrived it was revealed “the whole family” is allegedly involved in dealing in narcotics.
“As a channel, we will continue to fight the spread of drugs in South Africa and our communities with the help of law enforcement and communities. We will do so by following the laws and regulations. We are happy to be working with DAG K9 Services and our tactical team. We have recovered narcotics to the value of R3m.”
Cekete said they have introduced a unit called the DAG K9 Services, based in West Rand.
“We use highly trained sniffer dogs to detect the drugs. There is no need for forceful measures,” she said.
A former presenter of the same show, Xolani Khumalo, is on trial for the murder of Robert Varrie who died during a recording of the anti-drug show.
Khumalo's case returns to court on April 11.
