KZN Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize and members of the KZN Government on Saturday accompanied Zulu Monarch, King Goodwill Zwelithini in observing one of the Zulu nation’s sacred rituals, Umkhosi WoSelwa.
The event took place at Enyokeni Royal Palace, Nongoma
This ancient ritual, previously known as Umkhosi WokweShwama ((First Fruit Ceremony) , was also attended by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and amabutho.
“I would like to thank amabutho for coming in their numbers to observe one of the most important aspects of our culture,” said His Majesty.
He called on more amabutho to attend this sacred ritual, as it forms an intergral part of the Zulu customs and culture.
“We have seen maidens who descend in tens of thousands to the palace each year, and I want to challenge amabutho to also come in their numbers when we have rituals which need their participation,” said the King.
He also thanked the provincial government for its recognition of the Zulu monarchy and for supporting traditional rituals that are performed by the Zulu nation.
