Man killed in attempted hijacking outside mall

A man was killed and another wounded when guards exchanged gunfire with men trying to hijack a courier van outside a shopping centre on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said the attempted hijacking happened around 9.40am outside The Glen Shopping Centre in Oakdene‚ Johannesburg.

“There was an attempted hijacking of a courier van. The security guards who were escorting the van had a shootout with the men trying to hijack the van. One of the robbers was shot dead and the other was wounded. Three other suspects managed to flee from the scene‚” Dlamini said.
