Zuma appoints 17 judges

President Jacob Zuma has announced the appointment of 17 judges to the Supreme Court of Appeal, the high courts and the Competition Appeal Court.

Judge Chimanlal Narotam Patel was appointed deputy judge president of the KwaZulu-Natal high courts in Pietermaritzburg and Durban.

Most of those appointed had been acting as judges, while three advocates were appointed as judges.

Below is a list of the appointments.

Supreme Court of Appeal

  • Justice Stevan Arnold Majiedt,
  • Justice Legoabe Willie Seriti,
  • Justice Leona Valerie Theron.

KwaZulu-Natal High Courts, Pietermaritzburg and Durban

  • Deputy Judge President: Justice Chimanlal Narotam Patel,
  • Acting Justice Nompumelelo Hazel Radebe,
  • Advocate Rishinand Seegobin SC.

Western Cape High Court

  • Acting Justice Monde Ishmael Samela.

Eastern Cape High Court, Mthatha

  • Acting Justice Gloria Nozuko Zukiswa Mjali.

Eastern Cape High Court, Bhisho

  • Acting Justice Belinda Cherryl Hartle.

North West High Court, Mafikeng

  • Acting Justice Nadia Gutta.

Gauteng High Courts, Pretoria and Johannesburg

  • Advocate Hendrik Johannes De Vos,
