Krejcir's pawn business robbed

Radovan Krejcir's Johannesburg business was broken into three weeks ago and jewellery worth R3 million stolen, Gauteng police said on Friday.

"It is on the same premises where an attempt to kill him was executed. On July 3, unknown suspects broke into the premises through the roof, cut open a safe, and stole jewellery worth approximately R3 million," Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said.

His business, Money Point, a jewellery pawn shop, is in Bedfordview.

Krejcir, a Czech national, escaped unharmed on Wednesday when guns fitted to a car were activated by remote control to fire at his car in the parking lot of the business.

His bullet-proof car's windows were riddled with holes. Police said the vehicle used in the attempt was stolen in Brixton in April.

No arrests had been made regarding both crimes.

"The incidents have not been linked but investigations are continuing," said Dlamini.

Krejcir, a convicted criminal, is fighting attempts by the National Prosecuting Authority to extradite him back to his home country, the Czech Republic. There he faces an 11-year prison sentence after he was convicted of money laundering in absentia last year.
