Male model Sean O'Pry has toppled David Gandy from the top of the earnings charts, but he's still way behind the ladies.

Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen raked in an estimated $42-million (R420-million) last year, and for the seventh consecutive year she was the highest-paid female in her league.

In contrast, American O'Pry tops the male charts with just $1.5-million (R15-million), according to a new list by Forbes.

Bündchen, 33, owes a large chunk of her wealth to an investment in Brazil's largest footwear company, Grendene.

The No 2 earner is Miranda Kerr, at $7-million (R70-million) - more than four times O'Pry's takings.

In perhaps the only industry in which women's pay outstrips men's, Forbes reports that female models earn 148% more than their male counterparts.
