Two Russian multimillionaires racked up a bar tab of more than £130000 (R2-million) at a London nightclub after going head-to-head to see who could produce the most extravagant bill.

The men, both in their 30s, ordered vast amounts of vintage champagne after arriving at the Embassy nightclub in Old Burlington Street, Mayfair, just before midnight last week.

According to one clubber, every time one table would order a round of drinks the other man would add more on his next order.

A spokesman for the Embassy described the tab as "off the scale", as the men worked their way through more than 30 magnums of Cristal and 20 bottles of Dom Pérignon.

By the end of the evening the bills were an eye-watering £66778.91 and £64279.70.

"Even compared to pre-recession, that's a huge spend," the spokesman said.

He added: "A regular spend for bankers here would be around £5000 to £7000 a night. Sometimes we'll get £10000 to £15000. But this is a massive, massive spend."

After the bar was closed just before 3am and the totals were added up, those sitting at the winning table were seen jumping up and down ecstatically waving their bill in the air.

The bill for £66778.91 included 30 magnums of Cristal, 20 bottles of Dom Pérignon, 20 Crack Baby shots, six Espresso Martinis, 10 shots of 18-year-old Glenmorangie whisky, eight bottles of mineral water, seven bottles of 1998 vintage Krug champagne and two magnums of Belvedere vodka.
