Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig suffered a minor stroke yesterday, the company said.

Cell C said Knott-Craig was recovering in hospital and was responding well to treatment.

Cell C chief commercial officer Jose Dos Santos will act as CEO.

In 2006, while CEO of Vodacom, Knott-Craig suffered his second heart attack. He was the founding CEO of Vodacom. He retired in 2008.

Since joining Cell C in April last year, Knott-Craig has been on a crusade to lower prices.

Last year, Knott-Craig sparked a price war that has led to a reduction in retail prices by all network operators.
