Matriculants who celebrate their results by drinking and driving will be arrested, Gauteng traffic police said.

"We will be monitoring all routes to ensure safety of all road users," spokesman Obed Sibasa said.

"We will deal decisively with irresponsible, drunk drivers and speedsters."

He was speaking ahead of the release of the matric results on Tuesday.

Pupils who consumed alcohol and performed stunts in cars would be dealt with.

"Matriculants or motorists found to be drag racing or drifting wheels on a public road will be arrested for reckless and negligent driving," Sibasa said.

He also warned parents who let their children use their cars.

"Some parents are ignorant and irresponsible. They must refrain from lending their children vehicles when they know they are not qualified to drive on a public road," Sibasa said.
