Police stood guard behind barbed wire barricades outside the Boksburg Magistrates Court this morning ahead of the appearance of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa's alleged killer.

Zanokuhle Mbatha (28) is set to appear later this morning for Meyiwa's murder last month.

Meyiwa was shot two weeks ago in the Vosloorus home of the mother of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo.

The shooting happened during an apparent botched house robbery.

With public anger still high, police were leaving nothing to chance this morning, erecting barbed wire barricades outside the court parking lot and preventing vehicles from approaching the courthouse.

"People are angry.  We are not taking any chances," said a police captain.

As police stood guard outside court, armed private security guards formed a cordon outside courtroom A, where Mbatha is set to appear on charges of murder and armed robbery.

Police are still hunting for at least one other suspect who allegedly took part in the attack with Mbatha.

Identity kits were released by police days after the killing with public reporting sightings of the suspects across South Africa.

Last week 13 people had been taken in for questioning by police, although  only Mbatha has been charged.
