Eastern Cape granny arrested over unlicensed gun

An Eastern Cape grandmother has appeared in court in connection with the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, the police in the province said on Saturday.

Spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said 63-year-old Nonotice Mfubesi was arrested at home by Ngqamakhwe Police on Friday and charged for being in possession of the firearm, a police issue weapon with its serial number filed off, and 10 rounds of ammuntion.

Police were acting on a tip off.

She appeared in the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate's Court on Friday and her case was postponed to April 29.

She was released on a warning pending ballistics results of the fire arm.
