Members of the media were denied access to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, according to a media report.

The media had been invited to accompany the Public Service Commission on an inspection of the hospital following claims of poor service delivery.

Hospital CEO Sandile Mfenyane told the SABC that he was simply following instructions he had received from the health department.

"I think, as the hospital, we acknowledge and respect the need for you as the media to go through with the commissioners but unfortunately we would like to request that you bear with us," Mfenyana said.

"This has got a lot to do with the dignity and privacy of the patients. You will understand that we have got a lot of people here who are in a compromising position," he said.
