Five suspected schoolboy murderers have been given a temporary reprieve - they have escaped police detention, but only until their exams are over. Despite being charged with murder in an act described by police as vigilantism, five Durban high school pupils will be allowed to write exams this week. The five - all pupils at Mqhawe High School in Inanda, north of Durban - have been released from the Inanda Police Station after being held for nearly a month.Police say the five, who have not been named, attacked three men who were robbing pupils at their school on May 15."The men were severely assaulted by a group of pupils and later taken to a local clinic for medical attention. One of the suspects died as a result of his injuries," said SAPS spokesman Major Thulani Zwane. The five were arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder. They were detained in police custody. However, the next day, about 800 pupils descended on the police station, demanding that their classmates, aged 18 to 20, be released or they would miss their June exams, which are to continue this week.Zwane said the prosecutor in the case was contacted and the five were "released on warning". They will appear in court on July 1. ..
