Rustenburg woman caught with mine explosives

A woman has been arrested for possession of explosives in Rustenburg‚ where police are also investigating a business robbery where the cash safe was blasted open. Sophia Makamo‚ 43‚ appeared in the Rustenburg magistrates court yesterday for allegedly being in possession of explosives.She was arrested at her house at Zakhele informal settlement in Rustenburg on Friday last week‚ the SAPS said in a statement. Her arrest comes after a police sting operation‚ which uncovered a pile of mine explosives stashed at the back of her house. Three ready-made blasting cartridges and 40 shock tubes were seized.Questioned about the origin of the devices‚ she allegedly implicated her husband. The husband is currently wanted by police. Makamo was granted R1‚000 bail‚ and her case was remanded for further investigation. She will remain in police custody until she pays the bail.Meanwhile‚ on the early hours of Friday morning‚ unknown thieves blasted a cash safe using explosives at one of the popular restaurants in Rustenburg CBD and made off with undisclosed amount of cash.
