Winds blow trucks over at Huguenot Tunnel - with pictures

The Western Cape has deployed traffic officers “to areas that have been affected by strong winds to help redirect traffic and offer assistance to motorists and road users”. The Huguenot Tunnel had to be closed late on Tuesday afternoon after four trucks were blown over on the bridge near the N1 Toll Plaza.Provincial traffic chief Kenny Africa said on Wednesday that the winds must first subside in order for traffic and emergency services to assist the trucks‚ which have not yet been removed.“The situation is currently unchanged. Motorists will have to use alternative routes‚ including the old Du Toitskloof Pass.”The tunnel will reopen when it is deemed safe for traffic.Also closed to motorists is the Bainskloof Pass after winds uprooted trees which were strewn across the road‚ but it was expected to reopen later on Wednesday...
