KZN Police seize illegal firearms

Police in KwaZulu-Natal recovered 41 illegal firearms and arrested 46 suspects during recent operations.

MEC for Transport‚ Community Safety and Liaison‚ Willies Mchunu‚ applauded the police for their progress during operations around the province over the past week.

The 46 suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Unlicensed pistols‚ shotguns‚ home-made firearms‚ rifles and 208 rounds of ammunition were part of the police’s haul.

In a statement released on Monday‚ Mchunu said police were “doing a good job of ridding the province of these tools of mayhem and destruction”.

“The recovery of these illegal firearms and ammunition are‚ indeed‚ another major breakthrough that could lead us to uncovering more suspects involved in this illegal activity and solving more crimes‚” Mchunu said.

“Illegal firearms have‚ and continue to be the key drivers of criminal activities in the province.”
