Afro Inspiration: Fashion that is as beautiful as the Sahara

10 March 2016 - 02:32 By Staff writer

Launched by Sam Mensah in 2013, the online shop Kisua, which means "well-dressed person" in Swahili, is the first worldwide website to feature only African designs. Now with two Johannesburg bricks-and-mortar stores in Hyde Park and Work Shop New Town, Newtown Junction, respectively, the brand has teamed up with independent Italian brand 8 to deliver a new collection for summer 2016, The Sahara Collection, which launched last night at the Hyde Park. The DNA of Kisua's signature vibrant prints and vintage silhouettes have been merged with 8's classic Italian styling to create stand-out wardrobe pieces inspired by Africa's Sahara desert.Stretching from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, the Sahara has been the pathway between Africa and Europe. Its cracked earth and brown sands inspired the prints for the collection and its rich indigo hues, dusty reds and vivid corals. The collection uses original African print fabric manufactured in Ghana and the Ivory Coast and features eight specially created artisanal prints. The collection was produced in Africa. The collection will be available globally at yoox.com and kisua.com...
