Power was beginning to be restored on Sunday afternoon across large parts of Johannesburg after outages that started on Saturday night, City Power reported.

“Power restoration for areas affected by the planned maintenance is at 30%," said the power company in a tweet shortly after noon.

Planned outages – for maintenance purposes – were implemented in various areas from 23:00 on Saturday. Power was scheduled to return at 06:00 but largely failed to take place.

City Power said it had experienced “delays”.

By noon on Sunday power had been restored to Kensington, Lombardy, Houghton Estate, Orange Grove, Sydenham, Linksfield, Killarney, Glenhazel, Wynberg, Kew, Norwood and Little Falls.

City Power’s Louis Pieterse was not immediately available to comment.
