New car sales hit the skids

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA said yesterday the sales figures reflected further weakness in the market, while new vehicle exports reflected an improvement, even if it was only slight (0.8%).Car sales in May domestically totalled 42907, down from 47832 in May 2015, while exports increased from 33414 in May 2015 to 33676 in 2016."The momentum of new vehicle exports was expected to improve over the balance of 2016 on the back of additional light commercial vehicle exports to Europe," the association said. ..
