As riots rip through Tshwane due to dissent within the ANC over the ruling party's decision to nominate Thoko Didiza for mayor - some residents have taken advantage of the chaos.

The riots resulted in several buses being torched - but what is calamitous for some can be a windfall for others - as some residents turned out to gather scrap from the wreckage.

"We've been here since midnight because money never sleeps.

"My brother‚ this is business for us. The police tried to stop us but they eventually realised there was no point‚" said the father of two boys. He spoke on condition of anonymity.
