Asthma pill a breath of fresh air

The first new asthma pill for nearly 20 years has the power to significantly reduce the severity of the condition. The new drug, described as "a game changer for future treatment of asthma", was found to lower asthma biomarkers fivefold.Millions of people globally suffer from asthma, with hundreds dying daily because of attacks, although it is estimated at least two-thirds of deaths are preventable.The new drug, Fevipiprant, works by stopping inflammatory cells getting into the airways. It's likely to halve the number of severe attacks and save hundreds of lives.Asthma charities said the new medication showed "massive promise", while sufferers trialling the drug said it had changed their lives.The research was recently published in the Lancet Respiratory Medicine journal.Christopher Brightling, professor in respiratory medicine at the University of Leicester , said: " This new treatment could help to stop preventable asthma attacks ."It could also prevent the need for inhalers." ..
